Emmanuel McKeown: French President slapped on official visit

French President Emmanuel Macquarie was slapped by a civilian during an official visit to southeastern France.

A video circulating on social media shows President McKeown standing in an area of the city of Valencia on Tuesday as he approaches an obstacle created to deter civilians.

He was slapped by a resident in a green shirt and security officers rushed to the scene shortly after. They removed the French president. According to local media in France, two residents have been arrested since the incident. When President McKeown was slapped, the slogan "Down with Macronism" was chanted.

The incident was condemned by some politicians in the country. French law enforcement agencies are investigating the man, according to AFP. However, it has not been identified and the purpose of the slap is unclear. "Democracy means legitimate debate and disagreement, but it does not mean violence, verbal aggression, or physical aggression," French Prime Minister Jean Costax told the National Assembly after the incident. Following the slap, leftist political leader Jan Locke tweeted "solidarity with the president." President McKeown is currently on an official visit to France, where he is inspecting a hotel school in the area. Authorities said the tour would continue on Tuesday and would also seek professional institutions for people between the ages of 25 and 30. The visit comes as bars and restaurants in France reopen for inland dining seven months later. These measures were taken to prevent the global spread of the coronavirus. The curfew in France will be in effect from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday night. President McKeown said in a tweet after visiting the hotel school that "a new initiative will be taken tomorrow ..." Day-to-day activities will be restored in all areas.

Who protects French presidents?

A special force called the GSPR is designed to protect the French president. It was founded in 1983 and currently has 77 men and women who are reportedly working to protect President McKeown. According to French channel BFM, authorities inspected the site before the president's visit. The duties of these armed men included being around and protecting the president during his visit. According to the channel, 10 GSPR employees were with him on Tuesday's visit.
